Games will be held at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena this weekend.
Australian Fast5 captain, Pettitt, is no stranger to the international stage and with the ability to shoot from varying positions in the circle, Pettitt’s versatility lends itself to the modified rules of Fast5.
During her time playing professional netball Pettitt has held a number of leadership roles in both domestic and national teams, including; Australian 21/U captain and 2013 Australian FastNet Diamonds Team co-captain.
“I feel very honoured to be named captain of the Australian Fast5 team. We have such a strong group of players this year and I think we have a really good chance of taking home the title,” said Pettitt.
“This is the first time the Fast5 Netball World Series will be played on Australian soil, so it will be a really special moment leading the Australian team in front of our home crowd.”
“It has been a massive year for netball in Australia and Fast5 is just another example of how the game is moving from strength to strength.”
Also joining the leadership team is Kate Shimmin, as vice-captain. Shimmin is an experienced Fast5 player, having represented Australia in the Fast5 World Series in 2012-2014.
Shimmin is known for her agile and dynamic defence skills and is excited to hit the court with the Australian team during the last weekend of October.
“The Fast5 Netball World Series is one of my favourite events on the netball calendar, so being named vice-captain for this year’s tournament is really exciting,” said Shimmin.
“I feel privileged to be helping lead such a talented group of players. Despite playing in different teams throughout the year, the team works well together and we have a great sense of comradery,”
“Playing in front of a home crowd in Melbourne will be a fantastic experience for us and we can’t wait to show our fans what we are capable of achieving as a team.”
Led by Pettitt and Shimmin, Australia will take on the world’s best netballing nations; New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa.
With dynamic rules changes, including; five players-a-side, shortened quarters, multiple point shots and double point power plays, Fast5 netball is sure to have the crowd on the edge of their seats.
