The festival’s opening will occur at 1.30pm this Friday October 28 at the Eden Killer Whale Museum, officiated by new Mayor Kristie McBain followed by a Welcome to Country by Pastor Ossie Cruse, and entertainment.
Eden Visitor Information Centre manager and chair of the Whale Festival Committee Deb Richardson said Friday is also the opening of the Forestry Corporation wood working competition, photographic competition, and local potters’ display at the Eden Fishermens Club.
The festival gets into full swing on Saturday, kicking off with an early morning Poet’s Breakfast, followed by a truck demonstration at 10.30am and the street parade at 11am down Imlay St.
“Then it’s down to the wharf for all the music, food, information and entertainment on the Sydney Ports’ stage all afternoon,” Ms Richardson said on Tuesday.
Children’s entertainment, art displays and exhibitions such as John Brady’s wood sculpturing, and local tours are all part of the weekend lineup.
“Spinners and textile work will be on display at Eden’s Log Cabin, yachts and boats in Quarantine Bay will demonstrate radio and static, there’s a book fair in the CWA hall, and light house tours can be booked,” Ms Richardson said.
Saturday night’s grand finale is a firework display over Snug Cove at 8.45pm and music at Eden’s Fishermens Club featuring Swamp Stompers (see Entertainment guide page 15).
“On Sunday Imlay St will be closed off from Chandos St to Hotel Australasia to allow the Hot Rod cars to be on display for their ‘Show n Shine’ event,” Ms Richardson said.
“The Davidson Whaling Station will be open with NPWS officers conducting guided talks along with local axe-men doing displays, and the Eden Visitor Information Centre will run two historic town tours.”
Ms Richard said the festival reaching its twentieth year is “an amazing feat of past and present committee members” and wishes everyone a wonderful time.
