In all the discussion on climate change there has been little consideration of how a local community like ours would adapt to the changes that are coming.

An event organised by U3A Bermagui and District is to be held on Thursday, October 27, to discuss just that.
Some of these changes we are seeing now, with increased severity of “natural disasters”. Many climate scientists and scientific organisations dedicated to investigation and modeling of climate change, indicate events such as significant rises in sea levels, much higher temperatures and more chaotic weather, resulting in an increased risk of bushfires, food production difficulties and threats to coastal infrastructure.
These have potential of national and international consequences relating to food, energy and transport supplies.
Thursday’s forum, to be held from 10am until 4pm, is not directed at solving the world’s problems, but how the South Coast community can manage these risks and be prepared for the consequences.
The matter is becoming more pressing than ever before, with growing scientific opinion that we could easily be in the midst of these dangers within our very near future, so the time to start planning, networking and coordinating is now.
U3A Bermagui invites all members to attend with a cost of $10 including lunch and refreshments. Interested non-members are also welcome, membership of U3A Bermagui of $25 is required.
