The service was to remember the members of the NSW police force who died while defending communities across the country.
It was also a day to remember the police who lost their lives through illness, accident or other circumstances in the previous 12 months.
At the service Chief Inspector Anthony Moodie said a peaceful society came at a cost, and sometimes that cost was a terrible one, but police officers have decided the freedom the country enjoys was worth the sacrifice.
Member for Bega Andrew Constance said it was important to remember the sacrifices officers make every day.
“Every time an officer puts on a uniform and leaves home, they and their families don’t know exactly what that shift will bring or if they will return safely,” he said.
Inspector Moodie said when an officer died in the line of duty, the burden fell most heavily on their family.
