Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Deputy Commissioner, Mark Whybro, and Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, joined firefighters and community representatives on Wednesday, September 28 to celebrate the station’s centenary of service.
Mr Whybro said a lot has changed in the fire service over the past 100 years.
“Today, the 16 firefighters stationed at Bega have a modern fire engine and the latest in equipment and technology to ensure the safety and protection of themselves and the local community,” he said.
“But the one thing that hasn’t changed is the courage and commitment shown by firefighters past and present.”
Mr Constance highlighted the importance of the new vehicle.
“This new vehicle has special equipment for hazardous materials incidents such as gas detectors, absorbent booms and bins for disposing of hazardous materials, Mr Constance said.
