A NORTH Nowra man who flattened a man with a haymaker punch in Goulburn has been jailed for 18 months and ordered to pay $300 compensation.

Scott Andrew Druett, 37, appeared in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The court heard around 2pm on May 6 Druett approached a man from behind in the Auburn Street Arcade in Goulburn, gained his attention by saying “hey” and tapping him on the shoulder and as he turned, punched him with a haymaker to the left temple.
The victim, who knew his attacker, fell to the ground, asking the man what he was doing.
The court heard Druett pulled the victim up by the shirt before punching him in the face and chest.
The victim again fell to the ground where he was kicked in the ribs a couple of times.
During the attack a lens from the victim’s glasses was broken.
Druett left the scene before police arrived.
The victim was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital with cuts to his ear and forearms and bruising to his knee and ribs.
Police attended an Illaroo Road address on July 25, arresting Druett.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming sentenced him to 18 months’ jail with a non-parole period of 10 months.
He will be eligible for parole on July 19 next year.
He has also been ordered to pay $306 compensation to the victim for the broken glasses.
