“It feels amazing, it slipped into place and all it needed was a whack,” Ms Mallinson said on Thursday.
Ms Mallinson’s long-time friend and brainchild of the Sculpture on the Edge festival, Jan Ireland, was present to watch the two giant pieces of steel put in place with skillful crane work.
“When I met Jen she was a painter who became interested in entering Sculpture on the Edge, and she is also an amazing graphic designer,” Ms Ireland said.
“I love her sculpting.”
Building contractor Stephen Hodgson helped put the two structures in place.
“I think we have the easy part just making it level,” he said.
“It’ll look pretty impressive when it’s done.”
Former council worker Ben Thomas said Ms Mallinson’s winning work was one of the top entries submitted almost two years ago.
“This one tied the area with the mountain and the view we have from the gardens,” he said.
