The captain of the Bega branch of Fire and Rescue NSW, Rick Dawson, said they were called out about 8am to contain the 10litre spill of a cleaning agent.
He said a drum containing the agent had leaked in the back of a truck in transit to the factory.
An exclusion zone was set up around the truck until the chemical was cleaned up, but no workers were evacuated.
The brigade brought a HAZMAT van and two members donned HAZMAT suits to collect the chemical and seal it in a new drum.
“It was nothing too major,” Mr Dawson said.
“There was just a bit of organising, you don’t want to rush into chemical spills.”
Bega Cheese will organise the disposal of the chemical.
