DG or David, used to surf at Bendelong and always stopped at Narooma, so he just had to include it in his first novel.
“I loved the town and the person that the character Sharon was based on loved Narooma too. Especially Hole in the Rock,” he said.
Recently he received emails from two people, one from Vietnam and another from the Phillipines, one asking if there was such a rock formation, which he mentioned in the novel as being a map of Australia carved out by the ocean at Narooma. He sent them a photo of the rock formation.
“The second simply said they checked out Narooma and thought it looked beautiful and they hope to visit one day,” David said. “Seems my novel is spreading the word about Narooma. I have had a few Australian readers include it as a destination since reading the novel too. Maybe the tourist association will give me a kickback!”
The new novelist leads a pretty interesting life himself. He drives trucks on a cattle station in Northwest NSW and is also a volunteer pilot for New England Volunteer Air Transport.
“We fly people to medical appointments and treatment in large centres from rural airstrips in the New England,” he said.
Beyond Forever's Horizon by DG Roach is a fictional story inspired by actual events. The novel relates to the difficult years of coming of age. More importantly it is about growing up and the experiences along with the emotions have been endured and felt.
In this way the novel is probably best described as an oxymoron, reality fiction. The reviews received on the Amazon page have been very kind. One in particular by the prolific author Bobby Underwood is an in-depth and well-written appraisal of the novel.
“The main character is a boy called Peter. It deals with his early struggles dealing with the reality of life. the novel has been described as frank and shockingly honest at times,” David writes. “It is not a children's book in that regard.
“Without giving too much away, it is Peter's relationship with a girl named Sharon from Narooma which becomes the real story. The cringingly honest detail of the first half of the novel takes the reader to the second half which the novel was always written to celebrate.
Beyond Forever's Horizon D G Roach is the first novel in the series. “This novel is my debut novel and I have been very touched by all the positive feedback I have received,” he said.
