On Thursday, the petition’s instigator Helen Slater and supporters Tony Allen and Marg Broadbent visited the radio station’s Bega office to inform management 2654 people from across the South East had signed the petition in the last six weeks. 

This included Member for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly and Member for Bega Andrew Constance.

Ms Slater said the people she had talked to about the issue were “very disappointed” and the announcements were important as it was embarrassing if you met someone and asked how a relative was only to find out they had died. She said not everyone buys the paper and many in the older generation did not use computers.
