“George Orwell’s Animal Farm was available for free electronically but the children decided they wanted the real version,” he said.
The school celebrated Book Week 2016 with an assembly to be remembered.
Fellow English teacher Mika Appleton said many students have rediscovered their love for reading.
“When you talk to students in Year 7 or 8 they say they used to read but don’t any more,” she said.
“We get them to read short stories because kids can them in one session.”
Students and teachers dressed as book characters and shared a love for the written word.
