Brown, president of the Bega Country Club, said the Open was set to be a highlight on the club’s calendar.
The event is set to attract players from the Mallacoota, Bermagui, Catalina, Eden, Tura Beach and Merimbula golf clubs.
“They are coming from everywhere,” Brown said.
“I invite everyone to come out and enjoy it, but you will play a course that will test your abilities.
“It’s a course where you need to think about how you want to play – it’s a strategic course and you need to pick your shots.”
Brown said the Bega golf course was ready for the event, which is set to attract more than 100 players.
The Bega Open will begin tomorrow and continue on Sunday.
“The course is in outstanding condition,” he said.
“The recent rain has made the fairways perfect, and the greens lush and true.
“It’s probably the best condition it’s been in for the past five years at least.”
It is set to be a huge weekend for the Bega Country Club, with a 90th golf reunion being held on Saturday night.
More than 80 people are expected to attend, with the reunion continuing from the club’s 90th Anniversary Week of Golf in April (BDN, 20/4).
Brown said it was a great chance for current and past members to catch up over dinner.
Other highlights of the weekend include the chance to win a grand prize, thanks to major sponsors Austbrokers Southern.
The golfer who first qualifies for and then hits a hole in one in the hole-in-one shootout will have the opportunity to win a Holden SS Thunder and Yamaha YZ 250, worth $50,000.
The shootout will be contested tomorrow and professional golfers are excluded from qualifying.
However, the competition will be open for players in A, B and C grades.
Brown said the Bega men’s golf committee had worked tirelessly to make the Open a success.
He said lunch is included in the fees and daily prizes will be on offer in all grades.
