Building on previous years’ success, the SCLC Performing Arts Spectacular continues to be the biggest showcase of student performing arts programs on the South Coast.
For many weeks the 16 public schools that make up the SCLC have been auditioning, rehearsing and perfecting a rich and diverse selection of dance, instrumental, drama and vocal pieces to perform at this year’s festival.
This year, programs are spread over three nights to enable all of the schools to showcase their students and their work.
A feature of the Spectacular is the opportunity for high school and primary school students, as well as their teachers, to work and learn together.
Each performance demonstrates the talent and skill level of students and the joy and pride of their teachers and parents who support this development.
“We take immense pride in the work of the 600 children involved in the festival,” Bega High School principal Linda Thurston said.
“The work of all of the teachers and students has been amazing and we have all benefited from the expertise of tutors and outstanding programs such as the residential Music Camp held in Term 2 and the workshops for the SCLC Performance Band.”
A gauge of the success of the performing arts program is the performance quality that students who have been part of the program from its inception bring to the festival.
Year 12’s Jazmyn Carter and Annie Fitzer are two such students.
Selected to perform in each festival, firstly as students from Tathra Public School and now at Bega High, Jazmyn and Annie share their talent for singing and drama often arranging harmonies and scripts with peers.
“The SCLC Performing Arts Committee has representatives from each school and is a great source of professional development for teachers, both experienced teachers and new teachers,” chairperson Suezanne Bourke said.
Bookings are available at www.trybooking.com/LLRM. Entry is $15 and the shows start at 7pm.
