The Neil Rouse Memorial shoot is run yearly in tribute to honour a well-respected founding member of the club.
Officials said as in previous years, the event was generously sponsored by Pat and Talia Jubb, while family members Helen and Michael Rouse from Tumut were on hand to present the winners on the day.
Jubb and his helpers had set a course of seven shooting stations with a wide range of well-chosen, challenging targets.
A spokesman for the club said the targets were all able to shot, though not all in the same round.
Scores reflected the challenge of the layout with Craig Field comfortably leading the pack after scoring three rounds of 22/25 to pick up the day’s best of 66 from the possible 75.
In the A grade fixture Bob Duncan was the best on 59 to lead from runner-up Barry Dunn on 54.
Third went to Adam Shield on 51.
Fields score came out of the B grade standings with a comfortable seven shot margin ahead of second place Richard Seers on 59 and third went to Mario Magrin on 55.
C grade’s top spot went to Robert Shaw with a creditable 55.
Runner-up was Pat Tennant on a count-back from Michael Rouse with both returning scores of 51.
Barbie Magrin led the ladies with 38 from Helen Rouse on 27 just two ahead of third-placed Sally Armstrong on 25.
Ryan Shaw was the junior winner.
A training day was also held for new and novice shooters and four took advantage of the tuition provided by Bruce Arthurson and Nev Brady.
Everyone had an enjoyable lunch following the shoot – a selection of casseroles brought along by members rather than the usual barbecue.
The shoot raffle was won by Craig Field, who was packing up the tower after the shoot when the winner was announced,
Members said it was then a tall order for him when he came back to earth to shoot the required number of targets and take home the $500 jackpot on offer.
The club also held it’s AGM after the shoot, but members said new nominations were reluctant with the existing committee remaining unchanged except for one position.
The club’s next shoot will be held on August 28 from 10am at the Bermagui range.
The day will feature a 100-target handicap series for the Cheryl Brady Memorial sponsored by Nev and Shirl Brady of Bermagui Welding.
