Twenty-two youngsters are preparing for their trip to the countries in the September-October school holidays.
Accompanied by three teachers, two parents and one office worker it will be a larger group than has gone on the tour over the last few years.
The 17-day trip will encompass Cambodia’s capital city Phnom Penh, the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat, a floating village as well as the World Heritage-listed Vietnamese town of Hoi An.
It will be the second time overseas for Year 10 students Samantha Barnes and Daisy Boyle, who have been to Hawaii and Bali respectively and were excited to depart.
“It will be a good experience and rewarding to help people in need,” Samantha said.
“You don’t really get the opportunity to go overseas with your friends at our age.”
She was looking forward to meeting the people of Vietnam and Cambodia, while Daisy wanted to see the Killing Fields outside Phnom Penh as she is interested in history.
Travelling is something she is definitely interested in, she said.
“I want to go on a nice excursion with our friends, it will be a good memory to have,” Daisy said.
On July 25, some of the Year 10 students going on the trip (pictured above) were working with Year 9 students to make crafts to sell for a fundraiser.
Money raised through the group’s various fundraisers will go to supporting the Cambodian Children’s Fund, Tiny Toones, the Cambodian Landmine Museum, ABOUTAsia Schools and Global Village Housing.
The group has raised $13,500 so far and still has a few fundraisers to go.
On August 20, blues and roots band the Blue Ruins will perform at the Bega Country Club from 6.30pm.
Tickets are $20 which includes finger food and supper.
Then on September 5, Pete’s Dragon will be screened at Picture Show Man Cinema, Merimbula from 6.30pm with tickets $15.
