On Friday afternoon over 100 people attended the launch of Funhouse where they had the chance to look at the space the venue offers, eat food or make new friends.
“I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount of community support we’ve received,” Funhouse director Cayce Hill said on Monday.
“I knew that [Funhouse] would be something good, but I didn’t know how good until people started encouraging me.
“Some of the main feedback I’ve received is that people are really happy to have a place they can go to see people and connect.”
Ms Hill said Bega needed Funhouse because there was no public space for people to hang out and see what was on offer in the community, aside from the library.
The building, located on Hill St, will host classes, workshops, exhibitions, projects, and theatrical and musical performances.
Now that Funhouse was gaining momentum, Ms Hill wanted to secure funding and make sure people were clear about what it was – describing it as an “open idea”.
“It’s a space for the community, by the community,” she said.

On the night of the opening, children ran around the two-story building playing games, while musicians Cabec, The Candelo Books Band and KITFO performed sets.
Maria Andreu Martin will be teaching Spanish classes at Funhouse and said learning a new language gives you a greater understanding of your first language as well as the second one.
“I think in general a new language opens your vision, to not only see your little area, and I feel it makes you want to travel,” she said.
Flamenco teacher at the space Veronica Valderrama, who was once a professional ballet dancer, was excited to begin lessons.
“Flamenco is fantastic,” she said.
“It’s so rich in rhythm and feeling.
“I recommend that everybody does flamenco!”
