A spokesman for the club said the first grade and women’s rosters had a bye, so all senior play was centered around the reserve grade United outfit.
Tathra travelled to Mallacoota, where it had a strong 5-1 win.
After testing the Mallacoota goalkeeper several times in the first half, and playing well defensively, the score was still 0-0 at the break.
But early in to the second stanza Andrew Morrison opened the scoring for Tathra with a header from a nice chip in by Sean Yeo. After some good work through the midfield by Adam Helak, a long pass found Morrison, scored his second goal.
Mallacoota responded with a good goal to make the score 2-1, but Tathra bounced back soon after when Hugh Pitty scored off a left-footer to make it 3-1.
Tathra was awarded a direct free kick when Pitty was tackled from behind and a superb kick by Aiden Shannon sailed over the defenders and curled under the top bar.
A free kick in the final minute saw Tathra striker Dan Rutter take the shot, giving Tathra its second good win on the trot.
Meanwhile in Eden, the Tathra Under 14’s Maroon team had a 3-2 win over Eden.
“It was a very gutsy effort – with energy levels draining fast, they hung on for a well-deserved win. Thanks again to Natasha, Poppy and Zali from the Under 12’s for their big efforts and filling in for the team,” coach Sam Constable said.
