The Bermagui Seasiders, the Seaside Fair’s organising committee, held its annual donation presentation at the Bermagui Surf Club last month.
This year’s fair and Umbrellas of Bermagui were both very successful, and as a result this year’s donations totalled just short of $9000.
The handiwork of Bermagui’s Michelle Dedlefs was a crowd highlight, with her orca-inspired umbrella winning the people’s choice award at the fundraising auction.
The intricate work took Ms Dedlefs 60 to 70 hours to complete outside her work hours at her Stitch Connection studio. The winning bidder was a very excited Ines Judd of Bermgui.
The major recipient of fundraising from the 2016 Umbrellas of Bermagui event was the Bermagui Surf Life Saving Club Nippers – $4000 was presented to the club for training equipment.
The donation was accepted by Mikayla Shaw, the 2015/16 Junior Surf Club Person of the Year.
Further donations were presented to Little Yuin Aboriginal Preschool, Bermagui Pre School, Bermagui Public School, Bermagui SES, Bermagui RFS, Bermagui Marine Rescue, Bermagui Historical Society, 1st Cobargo Scout Group and shop7 artspace.
This year’s round of donations brings the total returned to the community by the Seaside Fair to almost $71,000, benefitting 31 local community groups and organisations!
“The committee is delighted to assist so many worthwhile groups and organisations,” Bermagui Seasiders chairwoman Christine Bimson said.
“We could not have achieved this without the wonderful support we receive from local businesses and from our fundraising activities at the fair.
“For their continued commitment to the Seaside Fair we thank the Bermagui Country Club as the event’s principal partner, and other major supporters including Horizon Credit Union, Bermagui Fishermen’s Co-Op, Julie Rutherford Real Estate and Bermagui Medical Centre.
“This helps significantly in staging the fair and ultimately being able to give back to the Bermagui community,” she said.
“We must also send out a huge thank you to the wonderful team of volunteers who help in so many ways.”
Saturday, March 11, 2017, will mark the 20th annual Bermagui Seaside Fair.
