Karen Lott and Barbara Green started the market in January 2009.
“Nethercote has a beautiful hall and location,” Ms Lott said.
“We saw the market as a great opportunity to encourage local growers to get involved and hopefully grow more.
“We wanted to make the market an event, so we included live music and a cooking demo, so even if the produce runs out early, there is still plenty to enjoy,” she said.
Thirty markets on, this simple recipe for success remains the hallmark of a fun morning out in the stunning Nethercote valley.
The ever-popular, well-priced community fruit and veg stall will be a glorious vista of winter citrus with enough oranges, mandarins and limes sure to boost your immune system.
Stock up on award-winning Australia’s Oyster Coast oysters, Rocky Hall wine, Tilba cheese, Palarang organic meat, Ena’s pickles, Beth’s jams and spreads, Jan’s pastries and Kay’s skin creams based on produce straight from the garden.
Bread-lovers who can’t resist a crusty loaf to mop up winter stews and soups can choose from Wild Rye from Pambula, or try out the artisan breads from Wheatley Lane Bread of Candelo – their first time at Nethercote Market.
The Nethercote Residents Association will cook up a breakfast storm on the barbie, with proceeds supporting further Nethercote Hall improvements.
Enjoy birthday cake with plunger coffee, while listening to the toe-tapping sounds of Paul Dion’s jazz trio.
Join Amanda Stroud in the kitchen at 11am as she whips up Cornish pasties made with market ingredients in the cooking demo.
If you hang around there will be piping hot pasties fresh out of the oven for sale around 11.30am.
Pair these with some of the most amazing sauces and relishes made locally and you’re on a winner.
