The Bega Valley Motorcycle Expo will be held at the Candelo Showgrounds on September 16-17.
It will feature trade stands and displays, a Show’n’Shine, six bands, the Trials Club of ACT and The Canberra Bulls Speedway Team, as well as the debut of a race bike belonging to the local Mongrel Racing V8 Sand Drag team.
Funding raised will go to support the Bega Oncology Unit and Snowy Hydro South Care.
The expo’s founder and organiser Glenn Cotter said it was going to be a whole lot bigger than the Pambula Bike Show that ran for five years, and which he used to organise.
“It’s a whole new concept and we decided if we are going to grow it and develop it we’ve got to take a chance,” he said.
“I'm excited by the great response and interest that we have received in support of the new format.
“[I] believe that we can develop the Bega Valley Motorcycle Expo into the premier motorcycle event in the Bega Valley region, while continuing to promote the sister events of Bermagui and Bombala Bike Shows, both of which provide valuable support to local community groups.”
The idea started after requests to camp from visiting riders attending the show in Pambula, an option now available on both of the expo’s nights.
Mr Cotter said the aim is to promote tourism in the region, as the Bega Valley is a popular destination for motorcycle riders from Canberra, Illawarra, Riverina, Gippsland and beyond.
On the Friday night, classic motorcycle movies will be played at the showground, while the gates will open at 10am on Saturday.
That day, band will play from noon to 10pm, including Angus Rump and The Chips, White Noise, Candelo Blues Band, The Spindrift Saga and The Swamp Stompers.
Entry per adult is $5 between 10am-3pm Saturday and $10 after 3-8pm. Any inquiries, contact Mr Cotter on 0402 474 514 or begamotorcycleexpo@gmail.com.
