Racing NSW recently announced that it would be increasing prize money at all country TAB race meets from $15,000 to $20,000 and this Sunday’s meet is the first of the greater offering at Sapphire.

Sapphire Coast Turf Club manager Rob Tweedie said that the increase in prize money reflects the positive direction in which country racing is headed.
“Overall country racing has strengthened, which means we will see a better class of horses and better class of riders frequenting the track,” Tweedie said.
“It’s great for racing in our region as trainers and jockeys will travel further to get a slice of the increased prize money.”
There will be plenty to enjoy for punters and families alike with a seven-race TAB card to go ahead on Sunday.
Mr Tweedie said that fields for this Sunday’s race meet are strong and racegoers could get a taste of the quality racing the turf club offers. “The standard of racing at Sapphire has been consistently high all season,” he said.
“Our track is gaining a reputation as one of the best and coupled with the increased prize money, we expect Sapphire to become even more appealing to jockeys, trainers, owners and punters,” Tweedie said.
Mr Tweedie also commented that competitors will be running on a fresh course on Sunday. ‘We have moved the running rail out five metres,’ he explained, ‘which will make for a very even track and no doubt a number of exciting finishes.”
