We have a structured approach to bitou bush control that we started 24 years ago and we visit each location once every two years. In this way we cover the whole of Tathra, roughly 350 hectares.
On Saturday we worked the hilly area up behind Wildlife Drive. Nine volunteers turned up and we found 33 bitou bushes which we removed. We also found a few asparagus fern plants; these are garden escapees which spread very readily.
Our other working bees produced a total of only 69 plants and covered the entire length of Tathra beach sand dunes and the coastal strip from Kianinny to the Pub.
Floral Art
The Bega Creative Floral Art group will meet again on Wednesday, July 6, at 2pm in Tarraganda Hall. The workshop at this meeting will focus on using Grids and creating ‘Floral balls' for arrangements. There will be floral supplies and new information for both novices and experienced enthusiasts. New members are most welcome, ring 64947461 for more information.
Kennel club
The Sapphire Coast Kennel & Obedience Club recently held their inaugural Winter Obedience and Rally Obedience Trials in Bermagui. Bega Valley Kennel & Obedience Club member Marina Pitsonis, and her spaniel Deena, had a very successful time!
Marina and Deena were competing at the highest level in Obedience (Utility Dog Excellent Class) and were the only team to pass. Deena also gained 2 passes in Rally Masters over the weekend.
The only other local Bega Valley club member competing at the Bermagui Trials, was Suzy Whymark with her Dalmatian, Edie.
Edie was successful in gaining her first and second qualifications in Novice Obedience (both with 1st places) as well as a pass in each of Rally Advanced and Rally Excellent classes.
