Recording outdoors beneath the stars and in abandoned mines among the red dust of the Australian outback, the fragments took form, resulting in the release of her debut album Queen of Swords.
Presented by the Yuin Folk Club, Tyrrell is performing at Cobargo Hotel on Sunday, June 26 at 1.45pm in a show that also features piper Nick Martin.
Tyrrell spent her early years in Dublin and around the world before finally settling on the east coast of Australia in 2013 with her three children
Her music cradles the spirit of her native homeland, and tips the cap to a notable family history of Irish music tradition.
Ache, honesty, elated melodies and garnishing rhythms which a thousand years of ancestry have slammed foot to floorboards for both celebration and protest.
Tyrrell’s music has grown from those traditional Irish roots into a truly contemporary sound.
It is tribal and wild, but also fragile and heartbreaking and, most of all, immaculately crafted.
From winning Queenscliff Music Festival’s Emerging Talent 2014 award, through the mentorship from Clare Bowditch and Shane Howard, and in the success of her own extensive tour in support of Queen of Swords her audience has grown.
Her audiences have been captivated by this unique talent who has infiltrated hearts and minds with her voice, stories and ability to motivate even the most reluctant of audiences into raucous sing-a-longs.
Tyrrell has high hopes for 2016. In addition to her own growing schedule, she joined Paul Kelly, Shane Howard, Pauline Scanlon, Declan O'Rourke, John Spillane and her father Seán Tyrrell on the national concert tour for Exile.
This was an exclusive line-up of outstanding Irish and Australian artists who came together for a celebration of Irish influence in Australia, creating a rich tapestry of stories, imagery and music in honour of the Irish exiles.
Tyrrell’s performance in Cobargo on June 26 will not be the first time she has performed in the Bega Valley, playing at the Murrah Hall in November last year and at Candelo in March. For bookings call Coral Vorbach on 0427 919 010 or email coral.vorbach@bigpond.com.
