“Having fun, learning life skills, friendship, caring for others and the community are all part of today's Australian Guide Program, which aims to make girls independent and resourceful leaders able to respond to a challenge,” said leader Anne Moore (aka Lorikeet).
Some of the activities included learning first aid, visiting the bird sanctuary, barefoot bowls and Australia Day duties.
Ms Moore received an award this year for 40 years of service to Guides – 30 of those with the Bega group. The parents thanked her for the commitment to volunteering and developing leadership skills in the girls.
The evening concluded with a play about Brownies, followed by supper served by the Guides.
To join the Bega Guides, contact Anne Moore at the Bega Library or email begaguides@yahoo.com.au. Guides meet weekly each Tuesday from 6.30-8pm during the school term.
