“The statistics are pretty shattering with one quarter of homeless people in Australia under the age of 15,” Tulgeen Disability Services’ CEO Pete Gorton said ahead of the 2016 Vinnies CEO Sleepout on Thursday, June 23.
“We could say in Bega it’s easy to ignore the small number of homeless but nationally the numbers are shocking.”
Mr Gorton has raised over $1000 so far on the St Vincent de Paul Society fundraising website with every cent going to the charity.
Over 1000 CEOs Australia-wide will be provided three pieces of cardboard, soup, bread and a cup of tea to go with their own camping gear for the night.
“Part of the reason I’m doing this is the adventure to find out how hard it is,” he said.
“The cycle of homelessness needs to be broken and if I can raise awareness in the community we will all ultimately be better off.”
