Eden’s top grade has been struggling to string any wins together and was already on the back foot against the Roosters before a major injury stopped play.
Young Tigers fullback Joel Grewar was taken from the field by ambulance with broken ribs and a suspected punctured long on Sunday, but had been exceptional in early passages of play.
Bega back rower Craig Dunham had put early pressure on Eden with a try deep in the left corner, while the left edge continued to be a strong area for the Roosters in later stages.
The Tigers made valuable metres in reply, but handling errors marred some early scoring opportunities and when play resumed after Grewar’s injury, Bega’s kicking game was greatly intensified.
Todd Ingram was exceptional for the Roosters, hauling defenders for several metres down the middle to give his backs space to move.
The Roosters began piling on tries and Eden was short of fresh legs to counter as the score by the break favoured Bega 20-0.
The second half continued in a similar fashion as the hosts piled on tries on the back of exceptional kicking by James Bower-Scott, hard runs by Ingram and Mitch Carter and the speed of Jackson Whitby and Dunham.
The score by the final whistle had blown out to 54-12 in favour of the hosts to cap off a strong day.
Earlier the club had won the league-tag, under 18s and reserve grades convincingly. In league-tag, the visiting Tigerettes put the hosts under pressure scoring an early try and holding their line to lead 4-0 throughout most of the first half.
Joccoaa Rogers and Bronte Burhop held the centre and made inroads for the speedsters to find space on the edges.
Olivia Dummett responded to bag three tries in a standout display, while Elyse Philipzen was on point alongside Fiona Holmes for the Chicks to dominate the second half and win 28-4.
Connor Carr and Zac Cuzner were the front runners in the under 18s contest with four and three tries respectively during a crushing victory over the Eden-Cobargo under 18s 74-4.
Roosters president Garry Arkin said the “Bega machine was feeding off great service from halves Nathan Curtis and Declan Bower-Scott to run out impressive winners over their opponents”.
The reserves had looked to be a level contest throughout early play, especially after the Cobargo-Bermagui Eels broke the scoring early.
However, the odds tilted in Bega’s favour as the game progressed through a dominant display by halves Allan Aldridge and Clay Childs to lead 10-4 at the break.
Handling errors were the visiting team’s ultimate downfall, giving up possession off early tackles and even losing the ball out of a scrum feed.
The Eels were starting to tire late in the second half as the Roosters were able to switch in fresh legs and the score slowly stacked up for the Roosters to win 34-14.
