A couple of players will be out for the Sea Eagles, but co-captain Luke Taylor says the team will be focused on what it can control and getting the results from that.
“I will miss this week, but hopefully be back in for the next round,” Taylor said.
“With the injuries we’ve got it’s an opportunity for some of the young fellas to really stand up and take some of the onus on themselves.,”
Taylor will be on the sideline helping coach Brad McBain where he can and guiding the team from the bench, but the club is excited to tackle a top-tier team on the big ground.
“At the end of the day finals are going to be played on a big ground like Pambula or Merimbula, so we are keen to get out there and test our mettle on those grounds and prove ourselves,” he said.
“With our running half-backs and our young blokes in the squad the larger ground will suit our play style for sure.”
The biggest challenge for the Sea Eagles might not be overcoming the reining premiers once more, but rather lifting from last week’s effort that was described as a “little bit flat”.
Taylor agreed with McBain’s comments about the game that it might have been a big win for the club, but he hoped to see more endeavour on the ball across the full 120-minute game.
“We played well at times, but we certainly had some flat spots,” Taylor said.
He said the Panthers have strong players across the park and the Sea Eagles wouldn’t focus too much on any one person.
“We just focus on the things we can control and the results will come on the back of that,” he said.
This weekend’s round will also serve as a lead-up to a few byes for the club and some patchy play, but a number have been named in the SCAFL rep squad, which Taylor is coaching.
“Personally for me to coach this vibrant young side in the representative round is going to be fantastic, I’m really looking forward to it,” Taylor said.
“But for those guys chosen from our club, it’s huge for them, they're going to benefit from that extra time on the ball and on the track.”
The Sea Eagles women are fresh off a good win over Narooma to face the Panthers’ ladies, who suffered a loss to Eden last week.
The Sea Eagles women are shaping as a front-runnner in the competition and will put on a good display through the midfield and front lines.
Play is at the Pambula Sporting Complex with women’s at 1.15pm and seniors at 2.30pm.
