MacNamara was recently named by Triathlon Australia as a member of the 2016 Australian team to compete in the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Championships.
As an international event, the championships are this year to be held in Cozumel, Mexico in September.
MacNamara’s strongest discipline has proved to be swimming and he will take to the waters off the Yucatan Peninsula like a fish.
He finished first in each of the swimming legs in triathlons he competed for more than three years since starting in 2012 and is continuing his dominance in the water.
He said he had always been a keen swimmer and competed for Pambula and Bega swimming clubs right up to a national level before becoming a swim coach himself.
Cozumel is an island in the Carribean with events to launch on the opening day of the competition.
MacNamara’s first event will be the Aquathlon championship, in which he finished on the podium to claim a bronze medal at the previous event in Edmonton, Canada in 2014.
He will also compete in the “sprint” distance triathlon event, where he placed in the top 10 at the previous World Tri-Sprint Championship, finishing seventh globally.
MacNamara said he was shocked by his continued success in the multi-disciplined events as he had never competed in running or biking until taking on his first triathlon in 2012.
“I had no previous biking or running experience,” he said with a laugh.
After his selection, MacNamara said messages and support from home had been overwhelming.
“Thank you to the many people and businesses of the Bega Valley for the wonderful support and sponsorship,” MacNamara said in the lead-up to his trip.
