The pupils have embraced the market theme of “homegrown, recycled and sustainable” and will run their own stalls, donating their profits to charity.
“It reinforces to them the school motto of ‘not for ourselves but for all’ and shows everything we do is to help the community in some way,” school principal Rick MacFetters said.
The pupils are also fresh from a first term course in entrepreneurship called Kidrepreneur.
“It taught us how to cooperate because if you keep on fighting you won’t get anything done,” pupil Rachelle said.
The stalls will sell items from terrariums to crochet bags, all made from reused, recycled and donated materials, reinforcing the need to live sustainably.
“Sustainability is important to save the world by not polluting and reducing fossil fuels,” Lucy said.
Hosted by the school, the day is a major fundraising event for the school’s P&C Association.
