For the Kindergarten and Year 1 pupils of Tathra Public School, a history project saw them visit the historic Thornleigh on Newtown, the Old Bega Hospital, the Bega District Hospital and then the new South East Regional Hospital.
At the Old Bega Hospital, trustee Jay Ellard gave a short history of the building and then led a Q&A. Mr Ellard said the children were well mannered and inquisitive, but more interested in the fire that damaged the hospital than the old hospital itself.
He said the children's questions were often hilarious and one child obviously thought the fire-damaged ruins were like a castle and wanted to know where the cannons were kept.
Meanwhile, Sapphire Coast Anglican College’s Year 11 hospitality students headed to Wild Rye Bakery at Pambula for an informative tour of its coffee roasting facility.
In-house roaster Erin Tatnell shared a wealth of knowledge from sourcing beans, to roasting and blending their boutique coffee.
Students got to see the roaster in action, starting with green beans and seeing and smelling the finished product. They learnt about the differences in beans, blends and the necessity of quality of the green beans.
