Each year the company donates a $500 cheque to two top University of Wollongong Bega campus Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy) students.
“We do it for the university, to keep the great facility in town because it leaves the option open for students to study here and remain in country areas,” Kothes Chartered Accountants' principal Gary Skelton said.
Tathra’s Ben Marshman received one of the awards after scoring a mark of 96 in first year accounting subject Accounting in Organisations while working full-time at the company’s Merimbula office.
The 29-year-old said the intimate nature of tutorials and low student numbers on campus has helped his study.
“I don’t think I’d get the award if I had to do it all myself,” he said.
“My tutors and my work mates have helped so much.”
Fellow recipient Chloe Burke of Bega scored a mark of 93 in Management Accounting II who also thanked her tutors for her award.
“There’s always time to answer questions and they often do more work than they are paid for,” the 26-year-old said.
