The joint club made the move in a showing for Bega clubman Andrew “Liver” Lemon.
“Such a fantastic gesture, [it is] probably the final time worn on the field, what a sensational send of to a true clubman who only ever wanted what was best for the club," Jasmine Fleet said in a post on social media.
Co-captain Scott Hay said it was a touching tribute to Liver and a great experience to don the Bega jersey for what could be the last time.
“It was a really good sendoff, the feeling of running out there for him in the Bombers jumper was unreal and I think he would have liked that,” Hay said.
“We had a great turnout for the crowd coming up for him, he was well-known and everyone wanted to be there to watch us play for him.”
Hay said Tathra supporters also turned out in droves to show their respect as the joint club continues to dominate on the field.
The side is showing plenty of natural talent, but has been well-drilled under the watchful vigil of coach Brad McBain, Hay said after the team’s fourth-straight win.
“It has been really well structured and we’re slotting in well, getting to play different roles than where we might have before,” he said.
The seniors secured a comfortable 130-point win over the Breakers 26-15-171 to 5-1-31.
Earlier, the Bega-Tathra women had also claimed a solid win over their northern rivals 6-11-47 to 1-0-6.
Tyjana Thelan again led the goal-scoring for the Sea Eagles with two to her name, while Adam Blacka piled on 10 goals in the senior game.
Tarni Evans, Natalie Coman, Chloe Pellow and Sarah Funston also kicked majors for the Sea Eagles in their match on the back of strong midfield play and great forward momentum.
Hay commended the launch of the women’s league as Bega-Tathra continues to lead the competition.
“The girls have been a great boost, and it’s good to have those numbers around at training with everyone working hard to earn their spot.”
He said ability was coming out of the woodwork and the atmosphere around the clubrooms had been fantastic in the early season.
“You need to give your all to keep your spot or someone else might just come up and take it and that has been making for great training sessions.
“It’s awesome sharing the co-captaincy with Luke, he’s a top bloke and I’m enjoying taking on the role and helping push this joint venture forward,” he said.
