Senior coach Brad McBain said the club had been “delving into the unknown” during the pre-season, but with season proper moving forward things were clicking perfectly.
“The boys just want more and they even challenge themselves week-to-week at training and that has just been coming off on game day,” McBain said.
The women’s team has also been shining on the field, especially after a great contest with Eden.
“Over the weekend we were trying to warm up and get ready for our game, but it was hard to look away from the fantastic match the women played,” he said.
“They’re all incredibly enthusiastic, all getting down to training and they’re bringing spark to the heart of the football club at the moment.”
On the back of excellent wins, the coach is hoping for another good showing this weekend, particularly with the Kenny Jack Cup on the line against the Bermagui Breakers.
“Bermagui looks fast, fit and young and Rob Beauzeville was a legend of SCAFL in his playing days so he could have their side primed for a big game, but we’ll just focus on ourselves,” the coach said.
As partnerships with the Bega Bombers club continue, McBain said he was looking to co-captain Scott Hay for a bit of understanding on some of the Bega players, but had been impressed so far.
“Players like Nick Forester I’d only seen a couple of times last year so I was really looking to Scotty for that knowledge, but he’s been playing well,” he said.
“He’s got a burning left boot and plays with confidence on the field, when he’s in range he’ll normally go back and slot it.”
Out of the Tathra camp, two that continue to impress the coach are Troy O’Loghlin and co-captain Luke Taylor.
McBain said O’Loghlin had missed a lot of the pre-season, but was stepping up on game day.
“Three rounds in and he is bursting at the seams and as the season goes on he will probably move back to his role as a key midfielder.
“Meanwhile, Bruza is always a skillful player, but these last few rounds have been exceptional from him.”
The coach also had some high praise for Richard Spink who had been dominant in ruck play and clearing out stoppages.
The women hit the ground at Dickinson Oval on Saturday from 1.15pm with the seniors to run on at 2.30pm.
