“Warrick already holds the record at 40.03s in his black skyline, but nevertheless is determined to go just that little bit faster,” a competition spokesman said.
Officials said some of the other fast “and likely spectacular” entries include Davis Deaves in his HSV GTS, Laurie Burton in a Nissan 260Z, Mark Rowley’s 5.7 litre Holden Torana and Gareth Rees in another Nissan Skyline.
Meanwhile, Tallis Swain will be one to watch driving a classic, but fast, Ford Escort.
The Cooma Car Club said it already had 25 entries, which is solid given Canberra is hosting a conflicting hill climb race, but late entries are still welcome.
“Entries are open up to 5pm on Saturday and we are hoping for further local entrants and especially additional junior – under 18 - entries,” the spokesman said.
“This is grass roots motor sport at its best, racing the clock up a unique 1 km long power hill – an opportunity that is not to be missed.”
The event will run under full CAMS rules and racers need to be part of an affiliate club to race, but one-day licences can be arranged on the day.
Spectators are more than welcome and a shuttle bus will run people to the top and bottom of the course after each run.
The venue will be at Mount Gladstone Road, off the Snowy Mountains Highway west of Cooma.
Racing starts at 9.30am.
