The new playground at Bega Park has been officially opened at a ceremony attended by excited children from St Patrick’s Primary School and the community.
Construction of the Bega playground was completed before Christmas last year, but on March 24 Bega Valley Shire councillors and Mayor Michael Britten declared it open.
“It’s made to be used by everyone,” Mayor Britten said.
“I’m very impressed with the construction and quality.”
Bega Valley Shire Council’s director of community, relations and leisure Anthony Basford said an important factor of the $170,000 playground was how it was designed to be accessible for everyone, with an access ramp and accessible equipment elements.
This will be council’s approach to all playgrounds in the future.
The work is not completed yet, with two shade stretches scheduled to be installed at the playground in May.
Also, while there are currently no public toilets at the park Mr Basford said the Bega pool, which is adjacent to the park, is due for an upgrade so council was considering plans to create a dual function toilet block that would serve the pool and those enjoying the playground.
After the opening ceremony, the children in attendance got to have an energetic Easter egg hunt in the park’s grounds.
