Emma Collins has been taking singing lessons for several years with high aspirations to one day be on Broadway.
Now she is a little step closer in launching into a career of showbiz after being hand plucked to perform alongside renowned theatre performer Lucy Durack at the Sydney Opera House on Saturday.
The pair will sing “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?” from the movie Frozen, as part of the Disney Under the Stars concert also featuring performers Ricki Lee, David Campbell and Harrison Craig.
The night will showcase contemporary and traditional performances from the long history of Disney repertoire including The Lion King, Beauty & the Beat, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins and more.
“We’re all still in a bit of shock,” said Emma’s mother Julie. “It probably won’t hit until rehearsal and she meets the cast [on Friday].”
The Dapto Public School student was given the opportunity after entering a singing competition through department store Target.
She had to submit a video singing the Frozen hit, before she was chosen as a state finalist and asked to sing before a panel of judges.
In talent quest style, a winner was chosen for each Australian state to perform at each capital city performance.
Miss Collins said she wanted to audition because it was a chance for her to sing and gain valuable experience, plus singing “is fun and cool”.
The pint-sized diva has been training her vocal chords for the past three years under the instruction of Danny Benn at Southern Lights Vocal Academy and is a regular on stage.
She often enters various eistedfodd’s to increase her experience and gain critique of her performance, as well as joining her family in amateur productions at Shellharbour’s Roo Theatre.
“She absolutely loves and adores musical theatre,” said Julie Collins. “We took her to see Les Miserable twice last year and she absolutely loves Eponine.”
Her little sister Holly also loves the theatre, but is the “dancer/actor” of the family according to their mum.
Both will appear with their parents Julie and Tim in the April production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Roo Theatre.
Emma will be playing Violet Beauregarde.
