Walker is scheming a fun, and dirty, mud obstacle course for the show that has been dubbed the Mudd Monsters obstacle park.
Have no fear, Walker knows a thing or two about obstacle courses, she is one of only two women globally to complete a 24-hour endurance obstacle event known as a survival run.
She has also competed at the world tough mudder event and hoped to use to the show as an introduction to the fun and challenge of obstacle racing on the Far South Coast.
“Obstacle racing is a great sport to be in that covers all aspects of fitness and mental capability and this weekend we have a little bit of everything,” Walker said.
“There are a few bits we hope to present a challenge, but it’s all about getting out there and having fun.”
Three sessions of the obstacle course will run each day from Friday to Sunday, at noon, 4pm and a competitive event held at 7pm.
The course is open to both children and adults with St Pats Catholic College pupils to join in the fun during Friday’s 4pm run.
“It’s very much a shrunk-down version of what you could find at a tough mudder event or similar,” Walker said.
“It works out about a 1km lap for the kids and 2km for adults if they do all the obstacles, but I’m sure the youngsters will just enjoy running through the mud,” she said with a laugh.
Classes from Thrive Fitness also acted as guinea pigs on the circuit Thursday afternoon before the show opened.
Walker will guarantee you to be covered in mud if you want to get involved during one of the sessions, but the Rural Fire Service will be there to hose everyone clean-ish.
“It can be challenging at times, but it is fun and messy,” she said.
“We’ve got an eight-foot wall for the adults, a smaller one for kids, as well as sandbag carries, gate jumping and more.
“It all becomes a bit more interesting when you’re drenched in mud,” she said with a laugh.
Walker has plans to open a junior obstacle course at her parents’ property later this year and would gauge response from the Show.
“This is my first possibility to put the feelers out, I want to give the kids something extra to do and it will be open each weekend,” she said.
You can register for the Mudd Monsters obstacle course at the Show over the weekend or text Michelle Walker on 0488 305 376.
“Spots are limited to about 50 per event, so text me your name, day and time and how many you want to register,” she said.
Entry is $2 for kids, $5 for adults or $10 to race in the 7pm competitive run of the course Friday through Sunday. The Bega Show opens Friday and will also feature harness racing and a demolition derby.
