With the biennial International Avalon Airshow in Victoria on an off year, event organiser Mark Bright is touting the Albion Park Airport show as the biggest and best in Australia this year.
“We are so excited to have this German war bird, which is so important to world aviation history,” he said.
“It is the only aircraft of its type in Australia and those who attend the show will not only get the chance to see it as part of the flying display they will be able get up close to this magnificent aircraft.”
Mr Bright said along with its well-known counterpart, the Messerschmitt Bf 109, the Focke-Wulf 190 became the backbone of the Luftwaffe's Jagdwaffe (Fighter Force) during WWII.
“It maintained superiority over Allied fighters until the introduction of the improved Spitfire Mk. IX,” he said.
This year’s airshow will include military aviators, Australia’s best acrobatic pilots and an array of ground displays, including the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society’s Mirage III fighter and retired Qantas Boing 747-400.
NSW Tourism Minister Stuart Ayres will announce full details of the airshow at an official launch in Wollongong on March 18.
