Michelle Frost of Regatta Point drives the Tathra-Bermagui Rd most days as she works in Narooma.
She said there seem to be “a lot of idiots on this road”, but in particular at the single-lane timber bridge crossing Wallaga Lake.
Drivers from the south are required to give way to motorists travelling towards the bridge from the north, but several times Ms Frost has found herself in a mid-bridge confrontation with drivers trying to bend the rules.
“Just recently a car travelling north didn’t give way and we met in the middle.
“She started yelling and screaming saying she was on the bridge first – but that’s not the way it works.
“I called the police because I thought she was about to get out and hit me. The police tried to speak to her on the phone as well, but they just told me that although she was in the wrong, to be the bigger person and reverse off.
“There was a line of traffic, we all had to back back just shaking our heads – it’s frustrating.
“It’s a single lane bridge so there’s a certain amount of driver courtesy needed, but it is a give way sign – perhaps people choose not to see it,” she said.
“There’s an incorrect impression that the car on first has right of way.”
Ms Frost suggested a larger give way sign for north-bound drivers, or more prominent white lines painted at the south end of the bridge could be beneficial.
“Or maybe police could come out here and start fining people for doing the wrong thing,” she said.
