The rain over the past few months in the Bega Valley has been great for farmers, however many people in the region have suffered major property damage from these storms.

These unprecedented weather events have also had a major impact on the infrastructure network of the shire.

Unsealed road surfaces have been washed away, bridges have debris on and jammed under their decks and potholes have formed on many of the sealed roads. 

Teams have been out clearing, cleaning, repairing and assessing the damage to the infrastructure from these storms.

This work all takes time and when all the information has been gathered the work is then prioritised for repairs.

Bega Valley Shire Council said it is aware of the situation and advised residents that works have begun in many areas.

This work will be ongoing for some time and council asked that residents be patient with the smaller, less critical repairs as their priorities will be to address the critical repairs as quickly as possible.

Roadside slashing has also been impacted.

The wet weather and unseasonal growth rate means many of the road verges have not been able to be maintained.

This will be addressed over the coming weeks depending on the weather conditions.
