Lloyd Spiegel is playing a gig titled Blues for a Blue Girl on Sunday, February 7 at the Bermagui Country Club, supported by Damon Davies.
The gig is a fundraiser for Martine Horder of Cobargo, a woman with autism and an intellectual disability who was struck by a schizophrenic episode a few days before she was to leave for Europe.
It aims to raise enough so she has a chance to visit Germany, a long-time dream of hers. Spiegel has been friends with Ms Horder for about 10 years, saying she is one of his true fans.
After her schizophrenic episode, he said she was no longer her happy, chirpy self so thought a gig for her would not only cheer her up, as she loves music and singing, but it may also help her fulfill her long-time dream.
The endorsee for Cole Clark Guitars is known for his giving nature, as despite winning a swag of awards, such as the 2015 Victoria/Tasmania Blues Awards album of the year and solo/duo of the year, he has a tendency to give them away to people he cares about.
“I cherish them in my heart, I really do,” he said.
“But I think maybe it would be nice for someone else who has supported me to have them on their desk where they might enjoy them, instead of them being on my shelf gathering dust.”
With his hard-hitting guitar style Spiegel has been touring for 26 of his 36 years and while he still enjoys being on the road, now that he gets to fly between towns, he said it is a lot less glamorous than it appears to be.
“There used to be a lot of hotels, a lot of petrol stations,” he said.
“And your friends are all over the world, so you never have all the people you care about in the same place at the same time.”
Spiegel also wanted to assure fans that this gig in Bermagui, the town where he went to for his honeymoon, is going to be a full show.
“I like visiting the Sapphire Coast, I’m kind of a prodigal son there as I seem to know everybody I see,” he laughed.
Blues for a Blue Girl starts from 3pm on February 7 and tickets are $20.
