More than $250,000 will be up for grabs in prizemoney when the Sapphire Coast Turf Club hosts the Bega Cup Carnival.
A host of bachelors and bachelorettes will join in the fun of the Power FM promotion “When love comes to the races”, which is a singles match-making effort.
‘Power FM has been playing cupid bringing singles from all over the district together for an exclusive party,’ club secretary/manager Rob Tweedie said.
“We certainly hope they will all find love at the races, but they are sure to meet some great people and have a fantastic day out regardless!”
Officials said excitement is brewing for what will be the biggest and best weekend of racing on the Sapphire Coast - the Bega Cheese Bega Cup Carnival.
Strong fields of local and interstate horses, trainers and jockeys will provide an action-packed two days of racing, culminating in the headline race – the Bega Cheese Bega Cup.
The feature race boasts a massive prize of $35,000.
“Bede Murray will be bringing O’Reilly’s Revenge, fresh off a win in the Moruya Cup. Having won with Life of Reilly last year, Bede will be going for back to back Bega Cup wins,” club secretary/manager Rob Tweedie said.
Storms last weekend haven’t impacted on the course and Tweedie said it was currently “perfect for racing”.
In addition to outstanding horse racing, Saturday will also feature the inaugural six by 100 metre Gallop Relay.
The event will see teams of runners from local sporting clubs sprinting for a share in a $1000 cash prize.
“The Sapphire Coast Turf Club is donating $500 to the local sports club of both the winning female team and the winning male team, to be spent on new sporting gear. It is sure to be a great spectacle,” Tweedie said.
Furthermore, patrons will be able to enjoy the awesome sounds of Petie Rose on Saturday, as the duo will be performing both original songs and classics for the crowd.
The ever-popular fashions on the field will be held on both Saturday and Sunday with fantastic prizes being awarded for a range of categories.
Ladies and men’s are extremely popular, but the club will also welcome the best dressed family and the best dressed child.
There will also be a jumping castle for the kids, as well as sumo suit wrestling for “kids” of all ages.
There will be free buses to and from the turf club running from Bega, Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula.
