Police from the Far South Coast Local Area Command conducted a mobile drink/drug testing operation in the area over a three-day period from January 12-14.
The operation combined the resources of general duties, highway patrol and target action group police along with a drug testing bus from the random drug testing unit to target drink and drug impaired drivers.
The results found:
- Day One, Bega - 84 drink/drug tests completed with 14 positive roadside oral fluid results for illicit drugs;
- Day Two, Batemans Bay - 25 tests completed with six positive roadside oral fluid test results for illicit drugs; and
- Day Three, Batemans Bay - 34 tests completed with 11 positive roadside oral fluid test results for illicit drugs.
With each positive roadside sample, the driver was arrested and taken to the drug bus for further oral testing to be analysed in a laboratory.
Once a positive detection is made, the driver will be issued a driving prohibition notice for 24 hours with results pending for possible charges.
The tests were for cannabis and amphetamines.
