A female passenger and young child were in the car when police arrived at the scene.
Police had originally been alerted after an attempt was made to sell the stolen Holden Commodore in Tathra. When the innocent prospective purchasers ran an online check, it was apparent the car was stolen in Victoria and the police were alerted immediately.
3.40pm: Police from around the local area have been involved in a dramatic incident as a speeding car rampaged through Berrambool, Sapphire Coast Drive, Wallagoot Lane, and then onto the Princes Highway heading south taking out fences and hitting police vehicles.
The speeding vehicle, believed to be driven by a man with a female passenger is heading for Victoria but with limited fuel. Police are concerned that the vehicle may contain weapons.
At about 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon the vehicle turned into Berrambool doing 90km/hr and cut through the dirt road connection with Mirador, busting open the gate between the two areas.
The vehicle then joined Mirador Drive and then went back onto Sapphire Coast Drive heading at speed towards Tathra.
It then turned onto Wallagoot Lane towards Kalaru but eventually emerged back onto the Princes Highway heading south.
As the car sped south police kept tabs on service stations knowing that the vehicle was low on fuel.
The vehicle was involved in a collision at an Eden service station with a couple of police vehicles before continuing to the Kiah store where it stopped to fill up with fuel.
