The “Students On Track” program will teach them practical applications of maths, physical education, tourism, marketing, event management, media studies, first aid and engineering.
Selected pupils from Lake Illawarra High, Kanahooka High, Bulli High and Albion Park High will join thousands of other teens from across the state and gain access to V8 practice sessions, the pits, team mechanics, drivers at work in the garages and other racing categories on track.
Head teacher of the Harbour Centre (support unit) at Lake Illawarra High School is using the day as a reward and an opportunity to learn more about driver safety.
“We just try and give them an opportunity to do something they wouldn’t normally do,” he said. “When we offer opportunities like this … we get a lot of positives out of their behaviour and attitude towards school in general.”
