This year marks the 116th anniversary of the band, which was formed in 1899 by a small group of local residents.
Also Can Assist, a group that has been fundraising for cancer sufferers in the Bega Valley Shire for the last 10 years, have fundraised $400,000 and helped 320 patients.
The two community groups came together to host an old time dance on November 21 where they raised about $1000.
"Under 40 people were there but they were all generous,” Bega Band publicity officer and Can Assist liaison officer John Winson said.
The funds were to help Can Assist in their mission to support people with cancer and to update the library in the Bega District Band’s rooms.
“The library was started in 1899 and we’re still playing some of that music now,” Mr Winson said.
He hoped the band would learn popular rock and roll or Latin American music and perform that along with old time music in the future.
This would mean they could play for more events where rock and roll or Latin American was more suitable than old time and help the band to raise more money.
