They were all competing in the Merimbula Classic at Main Beach over the weekend.
The Merimbula Sailboard Club’s premier surfing event attracted a massive crowd for days of surfing competition across three major divisions – kite surfing, sail boarding and stand up paddle boarding (SUP),
Organisers said the number of entries for events until Saturday morning had been the highest on record and this had proved the club’s biggest event yet.
More than 250 surfers were registered to compete, while the competition overall attracted numbers into the thousands.
Merimbula Sailboard Club president Glenn Brunette said 90 per cent of entries were from visiting surfers up and down the NSW coast as well as plenty from Melbourne, Canberra and beyond.
He also said as the event is a long-standing competition it has shaped as one of the country’s largest and garnered plenty of international attention and welcomed surfers from overseas.
