The school celebrated its 25^th Oxfam Australia Walk Against Want on Tuesday, November 24 with a scenic cycle ride from the Wallagoot Boat Club to Mogareeka for lunch in the park.

The small school managed to collect just over $100 while riding along Andy Poole Dr in Tathra.

An expedition style adventure trip was planned as something a little different to the school’s regular 25km walk from Tanja to Bega, this idea was changed to a shorter bike ride after bad weather postponed the fundraiser. 

It is a busy and exciting time for the school with pupils Ebony Constable and Anna Browne about to experience the thrill of publication, after the successful completion of an innovative book-writing initiative.

The two pupils were selected earlier this year to take part in an art and literacy program aimed at “gifted and talented” students which also involves fellow small school Towamba and Eden Public School.

Their works are now in publishers’ hands and going to print, with an official book launch held on Thursday, November 26 at Booktique book store in Merimbula.

Ebony’s book titled Rupert's Resplendent Plan follows Rupert the gecko and his adventures through the Australian bush.

Anna’s book Unlikely Friends follows the struggles of Wally the elephant seal as he looks to make friends from different ocean species.

Both pupils both wrote and illustrated their books.

This pilot program was developed and run by educator Judith Radin with the NSW Department of Education and book illustrator Sarah Irwin, and was initiated locally by Towamba principal Peter Claxton.

“For the past 10 school weeks the pilot has been running with nine students across the three schools,” Mr Claxton said.

“The students have undertaken online writing and art classes through “Zoom” web conferencing each week and then have worked independently in class to create their works.”
