It’s been 18 months since the club was placed in recess and has had an active surf lifesaving operation.
Eleven new or returning members are set to take to the beach with the South Coast Branch agreeing to a balanced reintroduction of lifesaving patrols in collaboration with the Shoalhaven City Council lifeguards on Cudmirrah Beach.
Patrols will be in place for the summer Christmas and New Year school holidays.
South Coast Surf Lifesaving president Steve Jones said the aim was to re-establish the necessary surf lifesaving skills by a measured transition back on the beach, under the supervision of the lifeguards employed over the holiday period.
“This is a means of introducing the newer inexperienced volunteer surf lifesavers who will learn the practicable requirements of patrol and rescue duties from experienced lifeguards,” he said.
“It will also allow the Sussex Inlet Surf Club to show the community it is ready and able to become a sustainable lifesaving club again.
“This a great outcome for such a small club and we look forward to more new members joining.”
The branch is also looking to Surf Lifesaving NSW to allow Sussex to re-introduce the junior activity (Nippers) programs, which would provide further growth for the club.
