Despite these conditions snapper and morwong remain available off Long Point, Hunter and Haycock. Salmon are reported off the rocks at Tura Headland and at Haycock Beach. Sand and tiger flathead are really on the chew off Tathra, try the 20 fathom mark.  

Schools of tailor are about and locals and visitors have had a great time spinning from the Merimbula fishing platform.

The estuaries have been a bit fickle due to the recent rains. Good catches of whiting on worms and bream on prawns as well as plastics are reported from well downstream.  

A jewfish was hooked in the same area having fled down from the fresh water. Salmon are also reported well downstream in the Pambula River. 

As conditions improve, bream, tailor, trevally, dusky flathead and the occasional jewfish will be on the bite in the Bega River, Merimbula Lake and Pambula Lake.  

Bait fish including garfish and small mullet can be gathered using bread burley.  All estuary fish respond to soft plastics, hard bodies and blades.  

The Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club’s tri estuary angling competition will be held this coming weekend Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22.  

There are already in excess of 50 entries with late entries allowable up to and including Friday evening.  Good size tides have helped clean out the estuaries after the recent rains and the club is looking forward to some good fishing conditions.  

There’s more than $2500 in prizes as cash and goods. Eligible species are bream, dusky flathead, trevally, Salmon, tailor, sand whiting, luderick and jewfish. Prizes are awarded based on Brag Mat photographs of length.  

Entry forms are available through the club’s website www.mbglac.com.au. and Merimbula Tackle World. The competition kicks off on Friday night, November 20 when event organiser, David Dulhunty, will give his briefing at the Spencer Park clubhouse.
